Can Social Media Make People Act Crazier Than They Need To?

by Frank Reed on November 19, 2009

I was just checking out a piece of video from a student ‘demonstration’ at UCLA about a 32% hike in tuition. A big number, no doubt, but look at this video and ponder a question or two.

  • Are the police that these kids are yelling at responsible for the tuition hike? Rhetorical question I realize but if we know the answer is no why are these students threatening them?

  • If there were no cameras would this have gotten so out of hand?

We live in a society that is overheated. Does too much media lead to too much of a need to be heard which then leads to extreme behavior being accepted so one can to be ‘heard’?

Just thinking out loud.
