It’s a Facebook themed Thursday for me today. Of course there is more to life than Facebook but you were never guess that considering the coverage it gets. As for today here are the two points of interest in the world of Facebook.

Have a question that you are dying to ask the entire world? Well, at least the 500 million of those people on Facebook? Well, the social media giant is rolling out a new feature that will help you do just that.

Mr. Zuckerberg Goes to Washington – Marketing Pilgrim

Boy genius Mark Zuckerberg has spent some time in Washington, DC this week. It wasn’t a site seeing tour unless you consider visiting with Senator Orrin Hath and others a relaxing stroll through our nation’s capital.

Frank Thinking: Rolling out my Local Basix program for the SMB. It’s a way for even the smallest business to get into the Internet marketing game even of they don’t have a website! E-mail me for more information at freed@frankthinking.com.

In honor of the Facebook questions feature, we will hear from Billy Joel who would probably not get involved since he sings “Don’t Ask Me Why”.

If we are to believe the folks that were surveyed by USC’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism the answer to this question is just NO! as 0% (yup, no typo) of the respondents said they would pay to access Twitter. Something to consider for sure even if it seems a little sensationalistic.

Would you like to stop behavioral targeting of your online activity by being on a list like the “Do Not Call” list? The FTC is taking another look at the option. That is, of course, unless the advertising world can get itself together and find ways to keep regulation ‘in-house’.

Frank Thinking: Been looking backwards and returning to the local Internet marketing area of the online world. SMB’s need a chance as for online success as well. There are ways to get the right foundation in place without breaking the bank. Feel free to contact me at 919-285-1515 for my thoughts.

It only took me about 7 hours to see that I had been done in by a word change by Microsoft in the title of this post (semi-embarrassing but something I will recover from for sure). As for the content? Advertisers are trying to clean up their act by teaming with the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism to try to bring some ethics in to the business. What’s that they say about a zebra and his stripes?

Ask Asks If the Human Element Will Help Its Search Business – Marketing Pilgrim

Ask is taking another run at being a search player with a revised Q & A approach to search. I like the idea but I am not sure if it will make me switch.

Frank Thinking: I realized today that I sometime get a little sloppy in my posts. Does that just make me a blogger or just plain human? Perfection is not accessible on this side of the grave from my point of view. Maybe I should let up on others from time to time, huh?

I bet you have never seen a rendition of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” like this one.

I think I fell asleep at the wheel during last week’s ridiculous heat here in NC. So I am going to get right back in the saddle with a few posts from today.

Aol. Looking for New Search Partner(s) – Marketing Pilgrim

As Aol. (that is their actual new logo / design, btw) continues to deflect charges of its content farm approach to filling up the web with (insert expletive here), it has realized that it also needs to get a new search agreement in place. Of course, if you create that much ‘content’ around important keywords (as opposed to actual observation and relevance) you better have a way to best sift through the crud.

Facebook and Twitter Integration Most Popular with E-Mail Campaigns While Mobile Lags – Marketing Pilgrim

E-mail and social media are starting to get along fine. It’s the whole mobile deal that has businesses playing catch up to industry chatter.

Frank Thinking: Since I mentioned being back in the saddle earlier, I will let the “Toxic Twins” (Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry) turn that phrase like no one else can.

Google Buys Search Entity Metaweb – Marketing Pilgrim

Google bought a pretty cool search ‘engine’ called Metaweb. Shame on me for never knowing about it until the purchase but it looks pretty cool and I really appreciate Google’s willingness to recognize other smart people exist out there and they can be purchased. It’s the Cisco method and that seemed to work pretty well for them, right?

foursquare Follows Twitter’s Footsteps With Search Engine Talks – Marketing Pilgrim

foursquare is stepping up tot he plate and talking to the major search engines about their data. It is reminiscent of the days when Twitter was moving up the food chain as well. Ahh to be young and in demand.

Tech Magazines Turn to Content Work for New Business – Content Mission

PCWorld and Macworld are entering a new world as they start Content Works. it is designed to give marketers high quality content to use in their own marketing efforts. Publisher as agency / service provider continues to grow.

Frank Thinking: I think that this move to publishers as service provider is a true double edge sword but it is one that cannot be avoided. If magazines don’t respond quickly they run the risk of being an asterisk in the history books as the digital age rambles on down the Internet highway.

OK, so it’s July but still …… it’s hot. Here’s a recap of the days musings from points across the net.

Google’s Q2 Success Still Not Enough for Investors? - Marketing Pilgrim

It appears as if Google can’t win for losing. Revenue up, strong profits but stock falls. It happens every quarter and as long as Google stays strong with giving no guidance to Wall Street it will keep happening. All the while they do a better job than most in getting things done well.

iPhone 4 Song for the “Big Day” – Marketing Pilgrim

Jonathan Mann produces a song a day and this one was funny.

Marketing the Mom and Pop Way – Biznology

We are so busy trying to impress each other in this industry that we just forget that when trying to impress a customer or a prospect it needs to be more like chatting with them at the corner store. Instead we talk about mining, cultivating, curating and whatever else it is we do to these people (oh yea they really are people!). We lose our humanity when we try to impress people. Let’s stop it, please.

Frank Thinking: I am feeling far too cynical and sarcastic for my liking these days. I just needed to say that to get it out of my system. Despite that, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Peace.

Google has started a relationship for with Omnicom for the agency to make its display ad buys through Google. Nice win for the Goog.

The Best of iPhone 4’s Rumors and Reality- Marketing Pilgrim

If you are as sick as I am about this whole iPhone 4 fiasco you may find my treatment of the rumor mill amusing. Oh and if you don’t I won’t refund your time

Online Listening: It’s Easier Than You Think – Trackur

Online listening is easier than most businesses want to believe. It can also be very affordable if you make good choices (shameless Trackur plug!). I take a look at just what businesses use for excuses that are actually real easy to overcome. Of course, if you think that there is no one talking about you online you don’t have to read it. And if you believe that lsat one, I have some oceanfront property in Kansas I want to show you.

iCurrent Bought By the Washington Post – Content Mission

The venerable Washington Post has purchased iCurrent which is a personalized news aggregation service. Only trouble for me was when I used it the tool site spit out content farm craptent. Is the content farm mentality going to take one of the last bastions of decent journalism down with it?

Frank Thinking: I am tired of the iPhone saga. I have nothing against the device or the company but I wish it would just go away. What else needs to go away? Craptent. If your content isn’t worth putting out for consumption then just don’t release it into the wild. We don’t want to see it and when we do we don’t want to engage with you anymore. That’s bad, by the way.
