I’ll Buy That for $3.99! Thanks for the Tip, Andy

by Frank Reed on March 4, 2009

Another Twitter sales success story for you to consider. Although it falls under the category of the “rich get richer” I want you to pay attention to the process and then wonder how this could work to your business’ advantage.

I was monitoring Twitter in the background (I highly recommend Tweet Deck to do this) and I saw the following tweet from Andy Beal (@AndyBeal for all you Twitter folks)

Now, I am a casual U2 fan. I don’t buy everything they do. I love the message of their music for the most part but I did not rush out to buy this CD when it was released. What I did rush to, however, was the opportunity to get the entire CD for $3.99 minus the shipping, waiting and other stuff that would make the CD 4 times that cost.

Andy’s seemingly innocent tweet to over 7500 followers generated at least one sale that at the start of the day had no, as in zero, chance of happening. Now I am $3.99 lighter in the wallet but enjoying new U2 music on demand.

Folks, that’s powerful. I think Andy should get a commission for that kind of sales effort. So what about you and your business? Are you getting the word out to people through the various channels that exist these days? Are you telling your followers (they are followers if they do business with you) what you are offering to them that they could use? If not, you need to consider this example. Sure, you’re not one of the biggest bands on the planet but you are the best at what you do, right? Does everyone know that today?

FT Takeaway: Social media and Internet marketing makes people buy. They are buying because they are exposed to opportunity by trusted sources. They are responding to a need they may not even realize they have. Get in the game and get in front of them. They want to know who you are.

Actually, it would have been easy for me to have added my Amazon affiliate ID to the link, but I try to follow the philosophy of giving more on Twitter than I take back. :-)

You’re a good man, Andy. Now I know all of my dollars went to Amazon and U2. They need it :-)
