Reminded of Simple Things

by Frank Reed on March 16, 2009

As I debated what I was going to blog about I was shaken into reality by something simple. It was just an idea and it was the idea to keep things simple. It came to be via Chris Brogan’s blog which I do recommend you pay attention to.

Nothing profound. Or was it profound? It was profound enough in its simplicity to make me think about things a bit differently so yes I would say it was profound because of its timing for me. It made me think a bit deeper.

Nothing earth shattering. Or was it earth shattering? For me maybe it was. If I look more simply at today and the interactions I have I may have more impact because I have decided to keep it simple. That may help someone get an idea or take an action that they wouldn’t have if I had talked too much or over embellished or whatever.

So on to Internet marketing and being simple. The industry makes it complicated and that may be out of self importance or some other intrinsic need for creating something of worth. I don’t know.

I do know this though, Internet marketing actually is very simple. You either do it or you don’t. You are either a student of it or you are not. You are either aware of how it can impact your business or you are not. You either prioritize it highly or you don’t. Whatever side of these thoughts you are on makes it simple with regard to Internet marketing. None of these points of view makes you better at it or excludes you from it. It only shapes HOW you do it.

If you do it yourself you need to be a student, you need to do the work, learn the techniques and understand how it impacts your bottom line. It’s that simple.

If you don’t do Internet marketing presently it doesn’t mean you can’t ever do it. If you don’t want to be a student there are experts available to help you. If you are unaware of the impact on your business there is research to help you and people to help give you guidance to see it or not. If you don’t prioritize it highly it doesn’t mean that you don’t do it at all.

So keep it simple. Decide what simple is for you and act on it.

FT Takeaway: Internet marketing is simple. You have to just keep it that way in the manner that works for you and your business. Don’t muddy the waters. Just jump in.

I agree internet marketing should be simple if you’re talking about your brand’s message to consumers. However, the magnitude of marketing capabilities provided by the internet and the calculating and interpreting of the results of internet marketing (the real advantage of internet marketing versus traditional marketing) can get complex.

@ internet marketing company

It certainly can be as complex as you want it. It can be as simple as just paying closer attention to your web presence though and you will see improvement. When a site has been neglected for a while it is amazing what some basic TLC can do for the organic success of the site.
