Taking My Own Advice

by Frank Reed on December 5, 2009

Chimp ThinkI have been working lately on this series of posts helping to recognize different social media activities and habits through the colors of the spectrum. It’s been interesting to touch on these ideas. It has also made me more self aware about my own behaviors in the social media world. This week I fell into the ‘those who can’t do teach’ category which is not where I want to be.

As a week in review session occurred unscheduled in my head I was a little disappointed in myself. For some reason I was a little too edgy and aggressive in my work this week. What I mean is I wrote in a manner that was more in the offensive mode. That has its time and place. I think I did it more for effect than anything else.

So I worked a little angry (red) this week. I touched a little in the blue (inappropriate) and I used to little caution (blue). I bring this up because I just read a post from someone I discovered through a referral and the gist of the post was to tear apart a poorly executed customer service action at a local store in Raleigh and to call the person an idiot for their actions. It sounded terrible and I will not go back to this person again.

I wonder if anyone had that experience this week with me?

At least every couple of months I feel that way. When you spend your time analyzing the actions of others, there’s probably a subconscious part of you that bottles up what you really want to say. Every now and then, the “constructive” is beaten out by the venting.

The fact that you can identify it, is what makes you one of the good guys! :-)

Thanks, Andy.

A rainy Saturday morning makes for a good introspection environment. I have looked deep enough for now ;-)
