The Dog Days: ORM Meets FUD, PPC Goes Up, Google Likes Fiber and Old Spice Goes Viral

by Frank Reed on July 14, 2010

Wow. WHat a full day of interesting topics. Thank God for the general concept of online listening which is becoming the norm for businesses who are paying attention. The ‘news’ itself has been, well, pretty lame. Here’s what I was up to today.

Hard to Deny the ROI of ORM Unless You Suffer From FUD – Trackur

Fear, uncertainty and doubt or FUD is keeping the SME (small and medium enterprise) from really monitoring the gold mine of data that exists online about their brand, their industry, their competition and more. Too bad because the conversation carries on whether or not they pull their fingers our of their eyes and take their blindfolds off.

Paid Search Seeing Upward Movement – Marketing Pilgrim

Paid search is showing some rebound capabilities. Of course, the report came from an agency that provides those kinds of services to businesses. Hummmmmm……..

Google Fiber for Communities Site Debuts – Marketing Pilgrim

Google rolls out a web site and cute video to talk about its Fiber for Communities initiative. While it looks nice it may really be more about keeping public opinion away from Google trying to be the corporate giant that swallowed America (at least in the eyes of our control-crazed government).

Old Spice Gets Serious Exposure From Viral Vids – Content Mission

Old Spice and viral video. I get it to a degree but this is going to be real big over exposure real fast. Of course, I could be wrong and if that is the case then I admit I was wrong ;-)

Frank Thinking – I had a conversation with a friend today who I consider to be a very smart person. He is a small businessman who has worked in corporate America etc. he told me that he is trying to do all the things that social media and Internet marketing experts tell him and the result is? He’s numb. Too much information to be of any good. Is that what we have done with all of this hype?
