The Human Tiger

by Frank Reed on December 2, 2009

TigerI am not going to judge Tiger Woods. That is not something I have the right to do.

I will say, however, that with his ‘announcement’ on his website today I think he is getting some bad advice. He wrote a combination ‘mea culpa’ and condemnation of his lack of privacy due to his celebrity.

Look, he’s a celebrity and his expectation of privacy is pretty misguided and naïve. What is worse is this admission of some unspecified transgressions from an reputation monitoring point of view. Look, I’m not perfect so I am not asking him to be perfect. That would be stupid. If he was admit to anything, though, he should be more specific and not let the court of public opinion make it worse, which it will. The online world is a rough place and this stuff leaves indelible footprints.

I pray for him and his family. I hope things work out and I hope he comes to grips with who he is.

UPDATE: I have made a few changes to this post since it went up and I want you to know about it. I removed a link to something that while relevant to this ‘story’ it was not something that I felt I should be a part of spreading. You’ll find it on your own I am sure. Anyway, I was just trying to be up front and tell you what I am up to so no one will make up a story for me!
