I think just as important as the social media participant's personality is awareness of the multiple personalities out there responding to your entries. The sum total of personalities out there have different needs and values. So, if you're a super caring person -- writing nothing but touchy-feely reports on your child's bedwetting -- then a huge part of your potential audience will disappear quickly. I think the secret is variety: the caring note, the funny note, the interesting photo, the cool website reference, the invitation to a part, some really interesting news, etc. Mix it up that way and watch people gather around you like romantic couples to a warm fire on a cold night.

Online social media, unlike the real world, allows for a sense of secrecy to identity, and people can be, and often tend to be, far more agressive and scathing in their comments (most all of which are generally written from the safe confines of their parent's basement.)

Tinas last blog post..<a href="http://webtainment.wetpaint.com/page/Coastal+Real+Estate+for+NJ+-+Apartments%2C+Property+and+Houses+in+Sea+Isle" rel="nofollow">Coastal Real Estate for NJ - Apartments, Property and Houses in Sea Isle</a>

From what I understand, the online world is not so different than the real world. The main difference is its capacity to exagerrate personality traits but at the end of the day, if you are a dishonest jerk online, it is probably because you are a dishonest jerk in real life! You will not sustain very long with a credible reputation online.
